Apothicairerie de l'Hôtel-Dieu

The Apothicairerie of Bourg-en-Bresse (an old apothecary shop) is located inside the Hôtel-Dieu. It was built in the late 18th century. The shop consists of 3 rooms: the laboratory, a place it is rare to visit these days, where you can find all the equipment so you can drown into the past centuries chemistry.

The back shop contains the first earthenware pots and a library with books from the 17th century.

The dispensary with its woodwork designed to store all the containers and especially the huge Theriac pots gives us information about the pharmacopeia of that time with more than a thousand substances: waters, powders, ointments and pills.
