Céreste, gate of the aples de haute aprovence

Céreste is famous for its rocks limestones due to the presence of water a few millenia ago when those were withdrawn, they on the spot left various layers of sediments on which the village is high.

While you are walking, you will meet limestone in various forms (calcareous white of large Luberon, in plates, etc) which contributes to the geography of the area.

The walker will astonish by the aspect in general rabougri of the " forests " oaks that it will cross. Considering the intensive exploitation by the man (glassmakings, naval constructions, mines, lime kilns, coal-scuttles, overgrazing, etc) is the cause. So certain witnesses of the large forests of formerly remain with the accesses of the farms, the sheep-folds, the places of worship, we are generally in the presence of coppice of white oaks characterized by a floral procession which varies according to the state of the settlements: White oak grove with maples, limes, sorbs, moors with genévriers, lawn with aphyllantes and brooms of Spain.

 The village of Céreste is divided into two parts. In top of main road 100 the dwellings, the services and the trade are then in bottom " is located; the old village " , characteristic at all the old provençaux villages (fountain, stone-built houses small lanes…)

• Priory of Carluc

"Priory of Carluc" is a privileged place of the regional inheritance, this is a medieval complex preserved good. You can see in this priory: a church, the vestiges of a gallery, remainders of the two other churches and many installations in the rock.

• The Large Clapier

"Large Clapier" is the oldest monument and largest of Céreste. This is a rampart which bars the end of the same name. It is characteristic of the iron age.

In the middle of the Natural Regional Park of Luberon, Céreste established on the bottom of the more high summit of this mountainous chain which, a such chameleon, changes colors in the course of the years and hours for better capturing your glance. Within a preserved framework, you will discover also the vast landscapes of the Ventoux Mount, of the mountain of Lure, the alpine range.
