Napoleon loved reckless bets and high stakes. The 25th of May 1804, the emperor decided, for the pacification and the Development of the Vendée, hard bothered ever since, to round a new city, anticipated for 15.000 inhabitants. This city is constructed proceeding the old core of La Roche sur Yon and it is built by the engineers of the 19th century, therefore the big coherence of town planning and architecture. You can admire the equestrian statue of Napoleon I in an immense square overlooking the rest of the town

The theatre in La Roche-sur-Yon resembles a temple because of its size, features and facade. The 450 seat interior is simple, classic Italian style, with the decor being completed by Louis-Lucian Penne, a famous artist from Nantes. In 1985, it was listed amongst the most historic monuments for its facade and roof together with the spectacular concert hall decor.
