Montagne Sainte-Victoire
The Montagne Sainte-Victoire, a few kilometers from Aix en Provence, is known worldwide thanks to the many paintings of Paul Cezanne and many trails that offer an exceptional view of the Provence and Aix, from its peak of 1011 meters high. It is a symbol of the Provence Region.
The Montagne Sainte-Victoire is a place for walking and climbing very popular for hikers. More than 6000 ha of the Sainte Victoire are classified and several trails provide access to the top where there is a priory dating from the seventeenth century and the cross of Provence offering an magnificient view.
Down the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, visitors can refresh themselves in the turquoise blue waters of Bimont and Zola lakes after a sportive climbing.
Cézanne devoted nearly 60 works to the Montagne Sainte-Victoire which has a strong link with the painters as on its slopes there is a castle purchased in 1958 by Pablo Picasso, in which he was buried after his death.
