Musée du Costume


The town house of the Buteau-Ravizy is dating from the 18th century and houses a costume museum since 1992. The museum includes about 5 000 items of which the majority comes from the Dardy family acquired by the city of Château-Chinon. The presentation is historical, artistic, ethnological and sociological.

One can find dresses with paniers dating from the 18th century. Empire dresses, crinolines, bustle dresses, short dress dating from roaring twenties. Also costumes belonging to the bourgeoisie and the nobility as well as garments of more humble classes. This collection also has numerous accessories such as bags, fans, shoes, hats haïr pieces.
