Tourism - Nord



Nord is a French department that is part of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. It is surrounded by Belgium and by the departments of Pas-de-Calais, Aisne and Somme. The main cities are Lille, Avesnes-sur-Helpe, Cambrai, Douai, Dunkerque and Valenciennes.

Nord benefits from having various landscapes with ‘Cordillère des Flandres’ five little sandy hills located by the Flemish border, the ‘Hainaut’ dotted with forests and green plains, coastline and swampy plains. Also, the coastline has dunes near the border in Bray-Dunes.

The historical heritage in the department possesses several fortified buildings dating from the 3rd century in Bavay. And the Vauban fortified buildings of Bergues andGravelines.

There are numerous traditions and events in the Nord department, in particular with the medieval celebrations and carnivals such as the one in Dunkerque. Also there are the parade of the Géants (giants) and the Braderie de Lille.
