Tourism welcome in the capital of pays de Caux
Yvetot seeks its origins after a Scandinavian chief « Yvar », who came from « Yvetofta ». YVE: Yvar and TOT: land He was granted the piece land during the Norman Invasions. Year after year, Yvetot became a Kingdom, then a Principality, then a sub-prefecture.
During many centuries, it was a freehold land, discharged from its obligations towards the King of France. Thanks to that occurrence, and thanks to its situation in the middle of Pays de Caux, Yvetot has been and still is an important market place, attracting merchants and craftsmen. Yvetot is a famous town for its markets and tradefairs since the 5th century.
Yvetot is an important place of crossing: its only at 1.30 hour from Paris and 30 mn from Rouen by train, and is on the road linking Paris and Le Havre, or the Channel and the Seine. Tourists coming to Yvetot will like walking along the large streets and places to do shopping in the many stores.
They will love too the flower decoration, the church with the largest stained-glass window of Europe, and the Museum of Ivory. The municipal tourist office will welcome you with enjoyment when you come to Yvetot. We?ll be able to answer you about heritage, leisure, events or accommodation in the area and hereafter.
