Tourism Founesnant
Fouesnant is a municipality of the department of Finistère, in the region Brittany, in France.
His name in Breton is Fouenant but locally we pronounce Fouenn, name indicated on the bilingual panels to the entrance of the municipality. The meaning of the name is not sure. A hypothesis connects it for its second part with the old-Celtic (and old-Welsh) nant, valley. We also thought that the first syllable could come from the foenn Breton, the hay. On the former(ancient) documents, we find names Fuinant (between 1022 and 1058), Plebs Fuenant (in 1084), Foynant (in 1294), Foenant (in 1324, by 1330 and in 1368), Fouesnant (in 1382).
