Drôme is a French department that is part of the Rhône-Alpes region. Drôme is surrounded by the departments of Ardèche, Isère, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de Hautes-Provence and Vaucluse.
The department is vast with various reliefs. From the cliffs of Vercors to the Plains of Provence, from the vineyards to the hilltop villages, it belongs to the Massif of western Alps including the pre-Alps of Diois, Dévoluy, Baronnies as wel as the Rhône Valley. The culminating point is the Round Rock at 2,456 metres. Drôme is a big scale leisure ground. Stony mountains, small hills and sunny plains, caves and rivers, everything is there to suit many outdoors activities such as hiking, horse riding, climbing, cycling, kayaking, and swimming. The main cities are Montélimar and its Sweets and Nougat Palace, Grignan and its Castle, Hauterives and its ‘Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval’ and finally Pierrelatte and its Crocodiles Farm.
