Tourism - Ain



The Ain is a department located on the eastern edge of France. It is part of the region Rhône-Alpes and is bordered by the rivers Saône and Rhône, the department of Ain enjoys an excellent geographic situation. The Ain valley goes through Jura for a distance of 190 km, with a succession of rapids, waterfalls and picturesque gorges. It also has a very good transport network and is close to the international airports of Lyon and Geneva. The Ain is composed of four different areas such as Bresse, Dombes, Bugey and Pays de Gex, which contribute to the diversity and the economic development of the department. The major cities in the department are Ambérieu-en-Bugey, Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, Belley, Bourg-en-Bresse, Gex, Nantua and Oyonnax.

The tourist infrastructure is good and divers. The angling and cycling tourism with 27 circuits of about 1500km altogether, attracts many visitors each year. The hotel and hospitality sector counts about 1,100 establishments with hotels, camping grounds, bed and breakfast, holiday apartments, guest rooms and so on. All of them make up to 40,850 beds.
