Details | The Belgian border is 7 km north of the city. The coalfield Borinage is nearby, although entirely on Belgian territory. The great city is also the Belgian city of Mons, the capital of the province of Hainaut, Maubeuge with which shares a common cultural policy. |
Sights of medieval
The Sainte-aldegonde treasure: The treasure, which belonged to the Chapitre of Chanoinesses de Maubeuge, is exhibited in the Sainte-Aldegonde vault in the Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul church. It includes the abbey stick, the reliquaire veil, and several statues of saints.
The Béguinage des cantuaines: This pious foundation dates from the first half of the XVIth century. It belonged to Jean Gyppus, senior of the canons of the Chapter of Saint-Quentin which was annexed to the Sainte-Aldegonde monastery.
Chapel Soeurs-Noires: The chapel dates from the XVIIth century. Of baroque style , it is classified Historic building. Installed in Maubeuge at the beginning of the XVth century, the Saint-Augustin nons, known as the Black Sisters, thus called because of their black clothes, had a charitable vocation.

"Le moulin à tablette"
The Moulin à Tablettes: In 1799 the Military Engineers authorizes its construction. Unique model in Europe, this windmill is timbered interior. It measures 15 meters high, 3.80 m in diameter in the roof and 7 m at the base. The mill tablet consists of an octagonal timber (7 tons of oak) enclosed in a conical brick tower.
Church Notre-Dame de l'Assomption: The church was built at the request of local residents of Sous-le-Woods, Dean Babeur and industrial Rene Hamoir. Work began in 1863 with donations from residents. The church was consecrated by the Father Hannoye October 23, 1866.
Church Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul: This remarkable church is the combined work of architects Henri Andre Lur and Lafitte. Located avenue Franklin Roosevelt to the highest point of the city, it was dedicated November 11, 1958. The old church of Saint-Peirre, located at Place d'Armes was destroyed in 1940.
