Montereau-fault-yonne

Founded in 1195, it is a masterpiece of 12nd and 16th centuries, in Gothic and Renaissance styles.

A Virgin with the child of 14th century can be seen there. Hanged up on the 5th pillar you will also see the Jean Sans Peur sword and a retable in stone from the 17th century.
Further, a retable in oak from the 17th century.

Located on the hill of Surville and founded in 908, this priory depended on the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Lomer in Blois.

The main entrance preserves vestiges of the 12nd and 13rd centuries (columns, vaults…).
The Roman choir of the church is very rare. The priory was converted into a farm at the 17th century. In the crypt, many sarcophagus.

Opened in 1985, the Earthenware Museum is located in the old post office.

More than 400 ceramics pieces are exposed covering 18th to 20th centuries.
The Montereau earthenware is a fine earthenware with clear paste, reknowned at the 19th century during the fusion of the manufacture of Montereau with the Creil factory.

Two earthenware manufacturers are at the origin of the success of Montereau : Jean ROGNON et Etienne-François MAZOIS, then Louis LEBOEUF and THIBAUT, MILLET, BARLUET.

Very beautiful old mansions in Montereau :

• Hospice de la Charité, rue du petit chaudron (corbelling from the 16th century),
• Old home du Grand Cerf, 17th century the Hostellerie de la Levrette with preclassical stoned frontage,
• Old salt barn of Preuilly, rue de la Poterne, 1177, it is the oldest house of Montereau.
