City of bruniquel

The castle of Bruniquel is a french castle located in the commune of Bruniquel, the department of Tarn-et-Garonne and the Midi-Pyrenees area. The castle is located on a rock peak, with cliffside on the edges of the Aveyron river. It is located at 5 km of Négrepelisse.

The “old castle” preserved its keep of XIInd century and its ramparts of XIIIrd century, time which it belonged to the counts de Toulouse, and its main building of XIIIrd century. In this perimeter two buildings are côtoient since the division of the enclosure enters the two rival cousins in 1484. It also has a Renaissance gallery with six arcades, overhanging the chasm on more than 90 meters of cliff, and the other parts which knew deep rehandlings, owing to the fact that the castle is burned during the wars of religion, at the XVIIIth century and later at the XIXth century.

The “young castle” was built between 1484 and 1510 and underwent rehandlings for the period baroque with internal installations, borings of windows with XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries and the addition of a door carved in 1683 at the entry of its staircase.
