La Grotte de Lascaux
The cave is situated in black Périgord in valley of Vézère on the municipality of Montignac, in about forty kilometers in the southeast of Périgueux and to 25 kilometers of Sarlat-la-Canéda.
It is one of the most important palaeolithic decorated caves by the number and the aesthetic quality of its works. It is sometimes nicknamed " the chapel Sixtine of the parietal art ", according to an expression attributed to Henri Breuil who also names it " Versailles of the Prehistory " or " French Altamira ".
The cave was closed in the general public because of the multiplication of errors of preservation but the company owner of Lascaux dashed into the realization of a replica " Lascaux II "
