Eglise Saint-Joseph
The church Saint Joseph is a uniquereligious building. Its octagonal tower, peaking at 360 feet, is the first thing one sees when arriving by sea.
Dedicated to the victims's memory of the Second World War's bombing, this monument is the symbol of the reconstruction of Le Havre and Europe. The old neo-Gothic church was completely destroyed in 1944. An architect, Auguste Perret, decided to build a new concrete church that is both a prayer and a memory's place. The first stone was laid in 1951 and the interior was completed in 1961.
The Church of St. Joseph obtains the title of a historical monument in 1965.
