Château de Fougères-sur-Bièvre
The castle of Fougères-sur-Bièvre was built in the second half of the XV century and ended in the early XVI by three generations of notable blésois. The building looks like a small castle in the late Middle Ages, with curtains, dungeons, loopholes, gunboats, patrol roads and battlements. This architecture shows the art of building in the region : Beauce hard limestone, tufa of Bourré, slate of Angers.
A singular monument compared to other castles of the Loire, its lack of ostentation, despite some embellishments that two buildings at right angles, and a shopping arcade. In 2003, a medieval garden has been added, including an aviary populated by dwarf chickens peacocks and pigeons. The garden also contains aromatic plants, herbs, and vegetables. The castle has since 2006 a night light.
