Tours is the capital of the Indre-et-Loire department situated in central France, between Orléans and the Atlantic Ocean.

Tours is placed between the Loire River and the Cher River. The Touraine region is famous for its wines. Tours is the biggest city in the Centre region of France. The city of Tours has over 140,000 inhabitants and is called "The Garden of France".

Tours is also well known for its medieval old town called le Vieux Tours with its well-preserved half-timbered houses and La Place Plumereau, a square with pubs and restaurants, whose terrasses fill the center of the square. The Place Jean-Jaures is the location of weekly markets and fairs.

Near the cathedral, in the garden of the ancient Palais des Archevêques, is a big cedar tree planted by Napoleon.

Among nice things to do is walking through the old city, which is very colorful and full of old houses and to visit the place where Joan of Arc had her armor made, right in the heart of Tours.
