Tourisme Serre Chevalier
Overview
Serre Chevalier (dubbed 'Serre Che) is a ski resort located in the valley Guisane in the Hautes-Alpes, Southern Alps, near the Parc National des Ecrins. It was created in 1941 with the building of a cableway from Chantemerle to the top of Serre-Chevalier (2 483 m). The emblem of the historic station is an eagle, referring to the emblem of Baron Borel du Bez.
It is the largest resort in winter in the Southern Alps as the importance of track mileage and the number of visitors. It occupies the valley Guisane from Briancon to Monetier-les-Bains. Located on the edge of the Ecrins National Park, near the Italian
border, it offers access to many winter activities or summer.
The ski area covers the towns of Briançon, Puy-Saint-Pierre,Saint-Chaffrey,La Salle les Alpes and Monetier-les-Bains. Historically administered by municipal bus (Serre Chevalier 1350 Serre Chevalier Ski Développement), the various municipalities of the valley have signed (from 2005 to 2007) various delegations of public service with the Company of the Alps (Val d'Isere, La Plagne , Meribel, Saas Fee ...). Serre Chevalier, in 2008-2009, 250 kilometers of ski runs between 1 200 and 2 830 meters, which will undergo further changes. Compagnie des Alpes, following agreements signed with municipalities, has indeed replace many lifts considered obsolete (La Balme chairlift, gondola, ski lifts ...) while increasing the snowmaking (new reservoirs .. .).
Since 1 January 2009, the operator of the ski area is called "Serre Chevalier Valley. However, although this name appears on the uniforms of officers of the station, the operating company and the tourist office in the Valley have agreed to market the "Serre Chevalier valley.
