Tourism Chinon
The town of Chinon, located in the Indre-et-Loire, is situated next to the Vienna river against a hill with steep slopes, suitable for fortifications.
The buildings are the witness of the medieval period, a time of prosperity for the town of Chinon, like the fortress and the old church of Saint-Mexme. But visitors can also find monuments more modest but still impressive, from that time until today. It is possible to admire the medieval half-timbered houses but also bourgeois buildings, all rubbing themselves and forming a harmonious whole, a rich historic center where visitors love to walk.
The fortress welcomes hikers at the top of the hill, overlooking the lower town, which seems to nestle at her feet. Along the river, there are now no more walls, but only banks dating from the 19th, on which stand proudely anciet plane trees.
To have an overview of the city, which is labeled "City of Art and History," just go for a walk up the hill and go to the chapel of St. Radegund from the fortress.
Famous for its numerous monuments of the past, Chinon is also well known for its wines that have inspired such François Rabelais. He chose these environments to support her characters as Gargantua and Pantagruel.
