Discover annecy

The construction of this monastery, which is to be found on the edge of the Forest of Crêt, began in 1909 and was completed around 1930. The Basilica was only officially consecrated in 1949 by Cardinal Tedeschini. Its order was founded at Annecy by Saint Francis of Sales and Saint Joan of Chantal in 1610.

The castle contains a remarkable collection of furniture, ceramics, lace, weapons, and rare Asian and African objects accumulated by Léon Marès, one of the last great collectors of the end of the 19th century. Four 16th century bronze bas-reliefs, masterpieces of casters Peter and Hans Vischer of Nuremberg, are also displayed.

The GORGES DU FIER are classed among the most attractive curiosities of the french Alps. Inside this gigantic fault, we discover many potholes, that the river digged for thousand years. When leaving the Gorge, the river threads one way through a labyrinth of rocks. It's a wide lapiaz with tormented shapes called "Sea of rocks".

There is a permanent display where you can admire the traditional costumes from Annecy and its environs : the display features the daily and "Sunday best" dress for men, women and children from the end of the 18th century up to the beginning of the 20th. The costumes and demonstrations of needle work techniques help the visitor to discover the Savoyards, traditional way of life either in the town or in the country. Several films (French-English) conclude this presentation.

The historical symbol of Annecy, the castle took four centuries to build (from the 12th to the 16th century). The Counts of Geneva chose to reside there from the 13th century. The city acquired the castle in 1953 and restored it with the help of "Historic Monuments", thus allowing a museum to be set up there. Since 1993, the Logis Perrière Tower houses the Regional Alpine Lakes Observatory.
