| Details | Puymirol is located in the department of the Lot-et-Garonne in the Aquitaine region. The town of Puymirol is an old village dating from the 13th century founded by Raymond VII, Count of Toulouse, the land was given by Pierre de Reims, Bishop of Agen. |
Discover the bastide
The village or Bastide of Puymirol is an imposing structure.
Located on a a rocky spur, its plans were designed according to the layouts of the site: a spindle shaped place with its main streets oriented east-west.
The 'corriéré' is demarcated by the Comtale's gate in the west, the citadel's gate in the east.
Side streets located oriented north-south are called bonello or venelles.
At the centre, the square named 'la carra' is crossed by the main street called 'Rue Royale' which is a rather rare layout for a bastide.

Discover the pigeon houses of Puymirol
Most of our beautiful pigeon houses fell apart as they were unkept and the arrival of chemical fertilizers accelerated their destruction.
The main type of pigeon house is the dovecote called 'fuie' or 'hune'. in the north, the word 'fuie' means pigeon house on linchpins.
the roof is covered with flat roof tiles. There is also what we call 'pied de mulet' a one sided slop roof, the birds take flight from the attic windows or par the air holes located on the roof.

The lake of Puymirol
A beautiful lake is located at the feet of the village. It is a great place to have a walk, to picnic or to fish, thanks to the big trees, tables and benches.
