The village of Serrières-de-Briord mark enter north of the Country of Lhuis and Izieu and it's the most populated agglomeration.

The commune is dominated by the mountain of Chateland and is limited, in the West, by the Rhone.

The river is a natural border. Only allowed to cross it, until 1986, a trail ferry borrowed, in particular, the workmen who worked with the cement factories of Bouvesse in the department close to the Isere.

Since the construction of the dam Villebois, the course of the Rhone, channeled by artificial dams, is widened. A vast artificial lake (800m in its greater width) modified the aspect of the landscape. Very close to Chateland, the tooth of Serrières overhangs the village.

From a hundred meters in height and detached from the mountain, it seems to threaten the dwellings downwards.

The Lake Serrières accomodates today the vast base of leisures of the Green Point where can devote to the joys of the bathe, the veil or simply of the " bronzette" !

The village of Serrières-in Briord is ideal for the holiday makers who will find various formulas there; lodging, the restaurants, the trade and many leisures.

Discover the heritage of the city

You reache the old village since the secondary road by narrow lanes bordered of small houses of stone to the notched pinions of roofing stones.

These ways converge with the foot of Chateland, on the level of the church, the entry of the throats of the Advent. With the Middle Ages, the density of the population was accentuated. In 1115, creation date of Chartreuse of Portes, the vault of Serrières had a chaplain.

The church, became parish at the 14th century, was increased then restored several times; lately in 1963, in order to preserve its Romance chorus.

The cemetery which still surrounded the church was moved at the 19th century.

The laundrette (1902) supplied with the channel derived from Pernaz and the communal oven of Small Serrières (1792) were also restored and point out the last habits.

Another laundrette was moved at the entry of Bourg and was reconverted in fountain.

Hikes in Serrières-de-Briord"

A short excursion, 1:30 of walk picturesque which offers a vast panorama on the plain of the Rhone which is extended until the Mount of the Lyonnais since the Virgin of Chateland. Set up at the edge of the cliff which dominates Serrières de Briord.

The description of the Rocks of the CRA depicts also this remarkable point of view. For going the route which belongs to network PDIPR is traditional, easy and accessible to all but for the return, the loop borrows a path soon forgotten that nobody any more seems to want to promote, this passage is however reserved more tested hikers.
