Welcome to the country of lhuis and izieu

The village of Bénonces,  the average altitude is 450m (but certain points of the village exceed the 1000m), is dominated by the rocky outcrop: the rock of Cuny. This rock carries a cross which is accessible into 3/4 hour of walk from the village.
From there high, a table of the orientation will allow you d' to admire a superb panorama on Bugey and the Dauphine one.

Another exceptional point of view, that of the table of the orientation of the Mount Frioland (1029m) on the collar of Doors. A small walk to join the Martyrdom of Doors and you will be able to profit of a sight on the Alps.

Since the hamlet of Onglas, this is with the cascade of Luizet which you will be able to go in approximately 45 minutes of walk. Here, the river falls of a height of 100m then descends in a throat for finally joining the Rhone.

And then, why not make a turn through the national forest of Doors with its under wood crossed shades and of lights which allow beautiful photographs.

Come to discover the 16 villages the Country Lhuis and Izieu: Bénonces, Brégnier-Cord, Briord, Colomieu, Groslée, Innimond, Izieu, Lhuis, Lompnaz, Marchamp… this is to discover an old built inheritance, witness of the structure bugist: communal ovens, martyrdoms, laundrettes, castles, strong houses, houses vigneronnes or country-women, let us grangeons…

In all the villages you can admire quantity of formidably restored old houses…

But the Country of Lhuis and Izieu does not certainly live in the past! The villages are repopulated day after day, the trade again open their doors, the leisures multiply!

Each village that you will visit will bring its batch of discovery.

THE CASCADE OF GLANDIEU

Considered site, this cascade is splendid in period of large water. Height: 60 meters. From very easy access since the cascade is in edge of road.

THE CASCADE OF LUIZET

Located close to the village of Bénonces, with the hamlet of Onglas,this is a moved back where The Aradin spouts out,  which falls, twice,  a 120 meters high.

The religious buildings present on the territory of the Country of Lhuis and Izieu have all their interest. Sometimes rustic, monastic or even contemporaries.

But all fit perfectly in the traditional habitat which makes the value of the area.

You will be able, for example, to see side of Bénonces the monastery of Chartreuse de Portes (private place, is not visited).

You will be able to be also delayed in the church of Lhuis which the Romance chorus (12th century) is classified with the Historic buildings and who was set up on a Gallo-Roman pagan sanctuary (guide of visit available in Tourist office).

You will be able to also visit that of Lompnaz to discover his contemporary liturgical furniture there…
