Cavalaire-sur-mer

In the beginning “Cavalairo” or “Cavalaira” was a small ground dependent on the vast domain of Jean de Cossa of Baronnerie de Grimaud. Thereafter, Cavalaire remained a long time a locality attached to Gassin, until the inhabitants obtain his administrative independence in 1929.

Today Cavalaire is a young city and full of life. It is a seaside resort of international repute which charms year by year of the visitors increasingly more. All are devoted to the pleasures of the beach, of animations of street, discovered inheritance but also with the various sports activities which the city offers: deep-sea diving, veil, walks on the paths, excursions in the Solid mass of the Moors…

The dynamic image of Cavalaire is quite real. Beyond tourism, she testifies to the identity of a city perpetually moving. The environmental concern of the City like its ambitious policy of installation and great projects translate rather well this dynamism which each year attracts new inhabitants.

The small valley of Fenouillet is a remarkable site by its ecological richness and its biodiversity. Several natural habitats can be met there,  which some of the Community interest. It is done by channeling the frequentation of the public, to protect these natural habitats with l' very fragile balance, but also d' to inform the public on l' ecological interest of the crossed mediums.
* Very different landscapes
The path of Fenouillet offers a large variety of landscapes:
  * a fresh and green wet small valley,
  * the maquis odorous in summer and flowered in spring,
  * of the rocks and cliffs on the littoral.
* A varied flora and a fauna The brook of Fenouillet, although temporary because it is out of water with the rains, offers conditions of the moisture and of freshness favorable to leafy trees and null and void like:
  * The glutinous alder
  * The white willow
  * The black poplar
You can find there:
  * The cane of Provence
  * The salsepareille
  * The reed (reed)
  * Mimosas
  * The eucalyptus
  * The robinier false-acacia The site is also rich in the opportunities with its fauna particularly… The freshness of the places attracts many birds such as the Robin or the Nightingale… but also the southernmost tree frog.

The Bay of Cavalaire conceals many treasures. Between the 12 the famous wrecks, spots with all the depths and a preserved environment, Cavalaire is the ideal framework for devoting to the diving.
The Bay proposes the vision of an underwater world of an exceptional quality:

• A vast herbarium of posidonies, so important plant for the marine ecosystems,
• A great diversity of the marine, animal and vegetable species coming from the good state of l' herbarium of posidonies, which is used as nursery of food and which oxygenates the water and fixes sand while attenuating the swell,
• Water whose wealth of nutritive elements is supported by the alternation of the marine currents of the east and west and by the protection of the Islands,
• A good quality of water attested by the frequent presence marine mammals of all sizes (dolphins, rorquals…) like the emblematic marine species (mérou, hippocampus…).

• The sail

The water sport is a tradition in Cavalaire.  You can practise the sail there. Throughout the year, the local clubs transmit the love of navigation by proposing a panel of nautical activities. As of 5 years and whatever the level, you have the possibility of discovering the feelings of the Big wide in board with veil, catamaran, centre-board, livable… Unforgettable experiments!

If Cavalaire is quoted like the 2nd Mediterranean site of diving after Marseilles, it is not by chance.

The Bay of Cavalaire conceals 1000 treasures: 12 wrecks with the evocative names (Ramon, the Ruby, Espingole…), of the famous spots to all depths and in a preserved environment. The dry ones and falling them from Bay of Cavalaire involve you in a fairyhood of colors by offering gorgones, corals, sponges and of course, a very large variety of fish to you.
