Ecomusée de Saint-Nazaire


The Ecomusée of Saint-Nazaire is situated on a historical site, in front of the large port of Saint Nazaire. The museum presents the history of the town of Saint-Nazaire largely related to the ocean and its harbor. Several thousand people visit the museum each year classified as "Musée de France". The Ecomusée offers to visitors, a journey in the history of the town of Saint-Nazaire from the prehistoric era until nowadays.

The aim is to discover and share the maritime and industrial adventure of the city through the history of men who have transformed the original village into a large industrial port city, renowned in France but also in the world thanks to the famous shipyard Saint-Nazaire ("The Chantiers de l'Atlantique") where are built the largest cruise ships, aircraft carriers and tankers.

The Ecomusée of Saint-Nazaire offers collections of objects and historical documents. He also owns written, photographs and audio-visual documents in its information center. Being also a research center, the museum organizes scientific and educational meetings.
