The Secrets of silk: history and techniques. Silk was the main industry of the Cevennes untill the last world war. In the middle of the 19th century, with Italian Piedmont, Cevennes constituted one of the first producing silk areas in the world. In the middle of the 19th century, Cevennes produced more half of the French production of cocoons (26000 tons). Le Musée de la Soie is the witness of this prestigious past which was rich on the technical and cultural fronts and still present in the memory of all the Cevennes inhabitants.
