Val d’Oise is a French department that is part of the Ile-de-France region. It is surrounded by the department of Oise, Seine-et-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis, Hauts-de-Seine, Yvelines and Eure. The important cities are Cergy Pontoise Argenteuil and Sarcelles.
Val d’Oise enjoys having a rich cultural and architectural heritage and has two regional natural parks: the regional natural park of Vexin and the regional natural park of Oise-Pays. Vexin français is the most attractive area for tourism with the village of painters Auvers-sur-Oise, the castle of Roche-Guyon halfway between Normandy and Ile-de-France, the Royaumont Abbey dating from the 13th century, the castle of Auvers and the castle of Ecouen that houses the national museum of Renaissance. Other museums and monuments are located in the department such as the museum of archaeology of the Val d’Oise department in Guiry-en Vexin, the museum Jean-Jacques-Rousseau in Montmorency and the Maubuisson Abbey in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône.
The cultural events in the department are the festival of Val d’Oise and the Furia Sound Festival.
