Isere is a French department that is part of the Rhône-Alpes region. It is surrounded by the departments of the Rhône, Ain, Savoie, Hautes-Alpes, Drôme, Ardèche and Loire. The main cities in Isere are Grenoble and Vienne.
The tourism industry in Isere mainly relies of its mountains. And it counts 32 ski resorts among them are: Oisans, Belledonne, la Chartreuse, Vercors, Trièves and Matheysine. The most famous are Alpe d'Huez, 2 Alpes and Chamrousse. Also, the department benefits from having the ‘Parc national des Ecrins’ on its territory. Isere Alps offers many outdoor activities opportunities such as hiking, mountaineering and skiing. Cycle touring is also very popular with the access to Alpes d’Huez that is a major stage of the Tour de France.
Finally, the department offers numerous museums as well as remarkable tourist sites of which 16 are archaeological sites, among them are, the ‘Musée de Grenoble’, the Hébert de la Tronche Museum, the Ancien Evêché Museum and the Saint-Laurent Archaeological Museum.
