Tourism - Haute-Garonne



The Haute-Garonne is a French department located in the Midi-Pyrenees region in southern France. The region has various landscapes, from the hilly regions of the north, bordering Gascony, to the mountainous Pyrenees and the Spanish border of the south of the department, with the famous Canal du Midi going through. Much of the department is covered with forests. This natural landscape is the main attraction for visitors, with numerous opportunities to explore the environment, from hiking in the summer to skiing in the Pyrenean mountains in winter.

The capital of the department is Toulouse, which is located in the north of the Haute-Garonne. In addition, Toulouse airport is a popular international arrival point.

Two towns that are worth a visit are Carbonne and Cazeres, and also the listed villages of Rieux-Volvestre and Saint-Sulpice-sur-Lèze.

The southern part of the Haute-Garonne includes many high peaks: Cagire;Crabioules; Gar; Literole; Lézat; Maupas; Perdiguère; Royo and Spijeoles.

There are several ski resorts, the best-known beeing “Le Mourtis”, “Luchon-Superbagneres” and “Peyragudes”.

St Bertrand de Comminges, a listed ‘most beautiful village’ in this southern part is really worth a visit. The remains of the Roman villa at Montmaurin are also in the Comminges region and are now a listed National Monument.
