Parentis-en-born

In the heart of the Landes forest , the biggest in Europe, Parentis-en Born, a small village of a population of 5,183 inhabitants having a 3,345 ha lake, is welcoming you.

Green as the Landes forest, blue as the lake, rivers and the Ocean and yellow as the sandy beaches, three colours for quality holidays.

Parentis-en-Born opens up on a panel of flavours, the friendliness of the inhabitants and offer numerous activities such as walking, cycling, fishing, water sports, swimming, festivals or just doing nothing

In July and August, the 'Compagnie des lacs' proposes a day out on a boat every Fridays on Saint-Exupery footsteps.

Therefore, you will experience a moment out of time and discover the shore of the lake bordered with 'golden trees', the tradtions of the lake in the Landes, the history of the 'Grand Lacs', aviation history and the local economy.

Departures from 3pm and 5 pm from the jetty of Port of Piaou, each guided tours during 1.30 h. Information and bookings requested and available from the Office of Tourism.

The flamboyant gothic church: with a fortified bell tower dating from the 15th century, the building also has a remarkable human scale statue of Jesus dating from the 18th century and a beautiful statue of the Virgin dating from the 15th century as well as another statue of Saint Michel dating from the 16th century.

The petrol museum: On Lake Road (route du lac in French), recounting the discovery of oilfield in Parentis-en Born, the formation, prospection and production. Guided tour available depending the season.

Each year, in July and August, days out in the countryside allow visitors to discover the Landes heritage (Free visits).

Visit of the Beekeeping farm. You will see the work done around the beehives, the collect of the honey and a honey tasting session.

Visit of a geese farm in Lüe (16 km from Parentis-en-Born) where the Foie gras producer will show you around his farm. You will see the force feeding area, the producting area and the process in making Foie Gras. The visit ends with a Foie Gras tasting session.

After all these visits a drink is offered at the Office of Tourism to finish the day.
