Welcome to ténarèze

Sub-prefecture since 1800, Condom counts 7555 inhabitants for a surface of 9434 ha. Built on a calcareous headland, the city is raised at 82 meters high. The average temperature bordering the 12°C confirms the softness of the climate. The most probable etymology is “Condatòmagus” which means “gone of the confluence”. Indeed, this is at the foot of the city which the brook of Gèle throws in the Fall which goes down from the plate of Lannemezan. The weapons of the city represent a bridge with five arches, a river, five turns and two keys.

• The church of Cannes is mentioned for the first time at the XIIIrd century. It belongs to the many churches damaged by the passage of the troops of Montgomery.
• The village of Lialores which shows in some places its old fortifications contains a Romance church of XIInd century (classified with the MH), formerly famous place of pilgrimage.
• The church of Vicnau (visible outside), primitive Romance style (Xth century), was strengthened in XIVth century. On the place of the hamlet, a “Work” was used to shoe the animals.
• The tower of Mothes (ISMH) is located at the interior of the grounds.
• The Romance church of Scieurac dedicated to St Christophe is built approximately and average apparatus very regular.

The church of Herret of Romance style, is lit by eleven windows distributed of each cà´té of the nave. The bell-tower dates from the XIXth century.
