Welcome to coucouron

The village of Coucouron has been existed for more than 700 years. Populated with its apogee of 1236 Coucouron inhabitants in account today 814.

Located on the Ardèchois high plateaus at 1139m, between three departments (Ardeche - Haute-Loire and Lozere) and three areas (the Rhone-Alps, Auvergne and Languedoc-Roussillon), this small village constitutes a true crossroads rich in inheritance and tourist assets.

It knew at the same time to keep its landscapes and its calm, by developing its richnesses and its activities.

Small narrow and old lanes connect the town hall of Coucouron to its church, the Saint Martin day church, rested by the monks Benedictines of the Abbey of Saint-Chaffre-of-Monastier (Haute-Loire) in XII century.

The Revolution had given a blow of thanks to the small church, which made compulsory its complete rebuilding as from the years 1850 because only were preserved the first three spans of the nave and the porch, vestige of the Romance building classified by decree of October 23, 1907.

You can still see, at the entry, the departure d' a crossing d' warheads pointing out the existence of two Gothic vaults. Framed by two buttresses, the granite porch sinks was surmounted by a clear granite bell-tower-comb.

The Lake Coucouron is a beautiful water area very pleasant in summer, which you will see downwards appearing a few hundred meters after having crossed the village of Coucouron.

A large carpark will enable you to station, the motor homes can take seat there.

On the spot, you will find a corner shaded picnic arranged of tables out of wooden, a snack bar with an adventure playground.

At the shadow of the large pines, you will admire the panorama of the lake. The fishermen will also appreciate the accessible framework.

The coucouron is a French cheese originating in the small village of Coucouron in Ardeche.

Manufactured with spotted paste containing cow's milk, one can meet reduced Coucouron, fat contents 25%, brick of Coucouron to the full-cream milk of cow, fat contents 50%, and also cheeses of the High plateau, with the milk good taste.
