Lot is a French department that is part of the Midi-Pyrénées region. It is surrounded by the departments of Corrèze, Cantal, Aveyron, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne. The main cities are Cahors, Figeac and Gourdon.
The Tourism industry plays an important part for the department.
Numerous caves and abysses with parietal paintings are located in this area such as the caves of Pech-Merle and Padirac.
The villages of Autoire, Loubressac, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and Carennac are listed as ‘most beautiful villages in France’. Rocamadour is the second most visited site after Mont-Saint-Michel, which is the third after the Eiffel Tower and Versailles Castle. Also, the regional natural park of Causses du Quercy contributes to preserve the natural heritage of the region.
Among the cultural places of interests that are not to be missed are the Champollion museum in Figeac and its giant reproduction of ‘Pierre de Rosette’ and the Musée de l’Automate et de la Robotique in Souillac. In addition, there are numerous festivals in the department such as ‘Souillac en Jazz’, ‘Cahors Blues Festival’, the Festival of ‘Saint Céré et du Haut Quercy’ and the Festival ‘Théâtral de Figeac’.
