Lalouvesc

LaLouvesc is at an altitude of 1080 metres. It’s a tourist and climatic resort. There are 500 inhabitants. It’s located in a quadrilateral made of Saint Etienne, Lyon, Valence and Le Puy. LaLouvesc is a leading light village of Green Ardèche. It is built on the spurs of the Massif Central.

You will appreciate an exceptional landscape. At the East, you can see the wonderful Alpes and at the West the beauty of the green Cévennes mountains. Have a look at the panoramic table. Whenever walkers, riders, horse riders may come to LaLouvesc, they will appreciate the numerous paths through the fields and the forests where they may pick up raspberries, blackberries, mushrooms and many other plants.

LaLouvesc has been a famous religious place since 1640 thanks to the pilgrimages of St Régis and Ste Thérèse Couderc who founded the nuns of the Cenacle. LaLouvesc has been listed a tourist place since 1971. There are many activities to make your stay enjoyable.

• The Basilica Saint-Governed date of the XIX century in the néobyzantin style, it was completed in 1877 and contains the relics of saint Jean-François Régis. The stained glasses of the basilica report the life of the saint and the frescos of the chorus evoke the history of the pilgrimage. A museum supplements the visit.

• Near to the basilica the house is where the saint died, on December 31, 1640. It was transformed into sanctuary.
