Salle du Jeu de Paume

Built in 1686, this room was destined to play a game resembling tennis. It is in this room that was the oath of the Jeu de Paume, where members of the Third Estate s'autoproclamèrent National Assembly whose mission would be to draft a constitution for France. The scene was immortalized by the painter Jacques-Louis David.

The room Jeu de Paume, which became a symbol, experienced other major events such as the proclamation of the Second Republic in 1848. In 1880, this historic hall was transformed into a museum to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution.
