The city of château-renault

Formerly the city main industry was the leather industry and Château-Renault was renowned for its leather work. The museum of leather and tannery offers a large surey on this industry. The city is known as the 'city of leather'.

The Town Hall is now housed in the castle that was rebuilt many times along the centuries. From the esplanade of the castle one can see magnificent views on Château-Renault.

In 1066, the Lord of Château-Renault gave the Saint-Julien de Tours abbey to the monks which was necessary to built a chapel dedicated to Saint-André and became a parish church in 1125.

The Hamlet of Vauchevrier : along the Brenne a pleasant walk towards the 'Halles aux Ecorces' recently renovated and that has a beautiful roof structure dating from the 17th century as well as the old mill in Tan now a exhibition centre.
