Tourism Lyon : Capital of gastronomy
Built in almost 2000 years, Lyon is one of the rare french cities that could keep the traces of its history, making it one of the most famous historical city around the world. The respect of the numerous periods the city travelled allowed it to appear in the UNESCO World Heritage site ranking. But if Lyon attracts now thousands of tourists every year, it is not only due to its rich heritage, but also thanks to its famous gastronomy and its particular know-how.
What to do in Lyon ?
You cannot go to Lyon without visiting its famous historical monuments and make a stroll in the 427 ha ranked in the UNESCO World Heritage site. Built in 1756 by Jacques-Germain Soufflot, the Lyon's Opera takes part of the inevitables places. Formerly called the Grand Theatre, it's only after its rebuilding between 1827 and 1831 that it was given the name of "Opera". Art and Greek mythology enthusiasts will be dazzled discovering the 8 muses settled on the side wall. Ranked as a historical monument in 1905, the Fourvière's Roman Theatres Assocation is divided in four sites : the grand theatre, the Odeon, the Cybèle's sanctuary and the rests of a home-made district.
To discover the whole beauty of Lyon, take advantage of the Lyon City Card, available during the Festival of Lights. Including more than 30 attractions, the Card allows you to visit all the inevitables places of Lyon, and even more. For the night birds, Lyon becomes a totally different city by night. Night clubs, tapas bars, the Lyon's night-life shows how bright is the youth of the city.
Gastronomy in Lyon
The inhabitants of Lyon are famous for the passioned love they give to cooking, and this love allowed the city to become the "gastronomy's capital". There are plenty of specialities from Lyon, which always please from the smallest to the biggest gourmets. The "bouchons", the "mâchons", the "mères", are emblems of this cooking. But if this gastronomy is world-wide known, it's also with the wealth of its soils. The "Rosette", the to-be-cooked sausage, the curlpapers, make part of the city's culinary specialities. Lyon is a One thousand and one taste city that won't stop amaze you.
