Rhône is a French department that is part of the Rhône-Alpes region. It is surrounded by the departments of Ain, Isere, Loire and Saône-et-Loire. The main cities are Lyon and Villefranche-sur-Saône.

Tourists visit the Rhône department mainly because of the Beaujolais and its very famous wines and its villages made of golden stones as well as for the Lyonnais region for its peace and quiet and for activities such as hiking and cycling; and the major attraction is Lyon that is listed world heritage by UNESCO. Also, Rhône offers the opportunity for numerous tourists’ activities such as the ‘Chemin de fer Touristique de l’Anse’ (the Anse railway in English).

Finally, the ‘Fête des lumières’ and the Lyon international Fair are among the most popular cultural events in the department.
