Tourism Saint Jean de Luz
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is situated in the department of the Pyrenees Atlantic and the region Aquitaine. The bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz is situated at the far end of the gulf of Gascogne.
This is the only sheltered roads between Arcachon and Spain. Ideally placed to the heart of the Basque Coast, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a seaside destination favored by the presence of a big beach of sand, accessible by foot since the center city. Tourism plays a very important role in local prosperity (hotels, restaurants, thalassothérapie, golfs).
Basque and cosmopolitan city all at once, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is opened to Iberian influences (bilingual schools teaching the Castilian one) and knew in the past many waves of immigration (Gascon, Breton). She remains the one of the coastal cities where one hears again frequently to practice the euskara.
