Linge memorial museum

On this battlefield of the 1914-1918 war, a particularly bloody confrontation that took 17,000 deaths took place between 20 July and 15 October 1915, then French and Germans stood facing until the armistice on November 11, 1918 . visitors are struck by the striking appearance of this historic site: side by side, the infrastructure of the solid German defense system, very well preserved despite the weather, and almost pathetic remains of the French trenches in loose soil.

It is the emotion of a veteran who in 1967 pushed Armand Durlewanger, historian, assembled a group of settlers to restore this listed historic monument in 1921, the first excavation work carried on the German trenches and put day skeletons french soldiers. The decision was made to build a memorial. An association was formed in 1969 with a former President for 1915 His goal was to build a memorial museum. Volunteers intervened with the military.
In 1971 was inaugurated the plate to "10,000 French dead whose blood soaked earth in 1914-1918"; plate composed of 120 kg of alloys with different cartridges and bullets found at the site. The planning permission granted in 1975, work began. The major work was completed in 1979 but the site is vandalized in 1980 with the burning of the house that contains many relics. The museum opened in 1981.
It was refurbished in 2012-2013: construction of a theater with 60 seats, facilities for disabled people who can see a trench from the museum, local storage, packaging and work creation.
