Musée du Périgord

Founded in 1835, the Musée d'Art et d'Archéologie du Perigord (or “Musée du Périgord”) was the first museum established in the Dordogne. The museum houses a rich and varied collection of remains of human presence in the Perigord, creativity in arts and crafts of the region but also worldwide.

The permanent exhibition is spread over 2000 m2. The collection includes about 45,000 pieces, most of which were donated by researchers, travellers and art lovers from the Dordogne Region and hence the title of "Museum of Perigord" must be understood as such. Local crafts such as blacksmithing, ceramics from Beauronne and Bergerac are found in this museum. Visiting the Musée d’Art et d’Archéologie du Périgord is an invitation into the journey of its creation by locals with an interest in archeology and art of Perigord and the world more generally, the Prehistory to Present.

Collections, treasure hunts, guides and brochures, give visitors a fun and rewarding discovery of Prehistory, Gallo-Roman, Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Beaux Arts, Asia and Oceania.
