Musée Maurice Estève


The Hôtel des Echevins, restored with the help of the “Monuments Historiques” and the direction of museums in France, is unique showcase to exhibit the work of Maurice Estève (1904-2001), remarkable painter from the second half of the twentieth century.

The museum's collection includes 130 works of the painter Maurice Esteve offered to the City of Bourges by donations (paintings, watercolors, charcoals, collages, tapestries).Maurice Esteve received worldwide recognition through numerous exhibitions. His work, early in his career, was noticed by his elders: Braque, Matisse, Delaunay and Picasso.

Result of several donations from Monique and Maurice Esteve, the Maurice Esteve Museum opened in 1987 and offers a chronological set over three floors. His admirable drawings, watercolors and collages are shown in the gallery “Lejuge” of the museum in softened light and are renewed every three months in order to be well preserved.
