Muséum d'histoire naturelle


The natural history museum of Autun, installed in 1964 in a mansion is a museum dedicated to the French mineralogy, zoology, paleontology and botany. The museum has over 800 000 samples, whether of bird specimens, fossils, shells, or insects. You can see a lot of fossil evidence of the life there was in the Burgundy region there are several million years.

This impressive collection is the basin of Autun a place very important witness. The permanent exhibitions are arranged thematically. It is thus possible to find tools dating from the prehistoric period, found in the basin of Autun, animals previously found in the caves at the same time, such as bison or aurochs, or live animals in the far north, as the beautiful blue and silver foxes.
