Mémorial de Caen
The Mémorial de Caen is a major cultural site and tourist attraction in Normandy, hosting nearly 400,000 visitors annually. As museum of the Peace in a region affected by the wars, the Mémorial de Caen allows visitors to a fun tour based on the various conflicts of the twentieth century as the Second World War or the Cold War. Inaugurated in 1988 by Francois Mitterrand in a building with a modern architecture and expanded in 2002, the Mémorial de Caen is now spread over 14, 000 square meters in a 35-hectare park where a tree, symbol of life, was planted by the president of the Israeli state.
The museum was awarded several times for its quality of hospitality and its rich museum content. The museum has many rooms dedicated to the war through a permanent exhibition, including a film projection in two parts: one about the Battle of Normandy in 1944 and the second about the Cold War. The Mémorial de Caen owns four rooms of permanent exhibitions and one dedicated to temporary exhibitions, accessible from the entrance hall.
