Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine


 Monastery of Saint Marie-Madeleine of Vézelay is a former French basilica established at Vezelay in Burgundy, the Yonne department.

On the road to Vezelay, the cross symbolizes the joy of Montjoie pilgrim saw for the first time the basilica. Indeed, it is on foot it takes to reach this high place of Christianity in the Middle Ages, important place of pilgrimage on the Route of St. Jacques de Compostela, whose tympanum of the narthex of the basilica is one of masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture.

The basilica is the subject of a classification as historic monuments by the list of 18,401. It is added to World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979.
