Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Evreux

The Cathedral Notre-Dame of Evreux is the largest church in the Eure department and reflects the major architectural styles from Romanesque to Renaissance mixing Romanesque and Gothic styles.

Nearly 70 windows considered as a masterpiece of French stained glass Art of the thirteenth to the sixteenth century and 13 chapels with carved wooden fences are among the finest in France.

The Cathedral Notre-Dame of Evreux has experienced many disasters throughout its history. Founded in the tenth century, rebuilt several times between the twelfth and twentieth century, it prevails today in the historic city centre, overlooking the neighbourhood restored after the Second World War.

Outside, the beautiful north gate of the sixteenth, the work of Jehan Cossard is considered as a masterpiece of Gothic style. The Cathedral Notre-Dame of Evreux has a beautiful canopy in its chancel, as well as in the gorgeous “Mère de Dieu” chapel. The spire of Notre Dame, called "Clocher d’Argent" rises to a height of 75m after its reconstruction after being bombed during the Second World War.
