Tourism - Somme

Somme is a French department that is part of the Picardie region. It is surrounded by the department of Pas-de-Calais, Nord, Aisne, Oise and Seine-Maritime and located by the Channel. Main cities are Amiens, Abbeville, Montdidier and Péronne.

Somme has numerous tourist attractions such as the Perret Tower, Jules Verne’s House, the ‘Hortillonages’ (little gardens), the zoo, the ‘Marie sans chemise’ square with a clock, the bell tower, and the Notre-Dame cathedral of Amiens, one of the largest in Europe. Each year in December, the Christmas market takes place and it is the largest in northern France. The theme park Samara (on prehistory) is located near Amiens between Abbeville and Amiens. The caves located in Naours, are a great example of Picardes muches.

Numerous festivals take place in Somme they are: the festival of birds and nature in the Baie de Somme, the ‘Souffle de la Terre’ a light and sound sow in Ailly-sur-Noye, and finally, the ‘medieval feast’ in Folleville.
