Tourisme Nantes : A city of history

Nantes is the capital of the Pays de la Loire, located at 50km away from the atlantic ocean.

The city was built on many water flows of the Loire, created a few islands, but the most important of these waters flows where dried up at the beginning of the 20th century to increase the road traffic.

In 2004, the magazine Time voted Nantes as "the most livable city in all of Europe". In the past, Nantes was a major port situated 50 km up the Loire River. It became wealthy on the trade with Africa and the West Indies. Nantes is also well known for being the home of the writer Jules Verne.

Nantes became in 1962 the most important city and the capital of the Pays de la Loire. It's also an important student city, which counts numerous parks and places to go outside. For sporty people, th city owns many cyclable tracks.

Today, Nantes is home base to high-tech industries.
