Loire-Atlantique is a French department located in the Pays de la Loire region in western France of which Nantes in the capital.
The coast of Loire-Atlantique is dotted with seaside towns and villages such as La Baule,Pornic, Saint-Brevin that attracts many tourists throughout the year especially in summer time. The hinterland also has tourist attractions with its historical heritage such as the medieval city centre of Guérande or the Castle of Bretesche in Missillac, as well as natural sites such as ‘Marais Salants’ on the Guerande peninsula, the GâvreForest or the Brière Marshes, the city of Saint-Nazaire and its sub-marine base and Ecomuseum.
Finally, Nantes and its historical city centre as well as Nantes’s Island.
In addition, cultural events are numerous in the department, among them are: the ‘Couvre feu’ Festival, the Escales and the Celtival on the rock.
