Loir-et-Cher is a French department belonging to the Centre region. Famous for its numerous castles such as the castles of, Chambord, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Blois, Cheverny and Commanderie d’Arville, Loir-et-Cher benefits from being listed as world heritage by UNESCO. Twenty-six cities and villages are part of this list. The main cities are Blois (royal city), Vendôme (Art and history city), and Romorantin-Lantenay (Capital of Sologne region).
Also, numerous towns and villages can be visited by foot or by bike.
Among the natural heritage, Le Perche, possesses preserved hedge farmlands and small valleys, the Trognes paths and the centre of natural resources and vegetal discovery. The ‘Vallée du Loir’ opens on to an underground world with caves houses. The ‘Petite Beauce’ is mainly made up farmland. Finally, the ‘Valley de la Loire’ the most famous due to its river listed as world heritage by UNESCO.
Numerous museums tell the history of the ‘Val de Loire’. Among them are the Sologne Museum, the ’Espace automobile Matra’, the Vendôme muséum, the ‘Maison botanique’, the ‘Maison Braconnage’, the ‘Maison du Loir-et-Cher’, the ‘Maison des étangs’ and the ‘Maison du Cerf’.
Finally, there are cultural events happening throughout the year in the department such as the Festival international de guitare in Vendôme; the ‘Musicalies’ in Sologne; Equestrian shows in Chambord; Jazzin’ Cheverny in Cheverny; Swing 41 in Salbris; ‘Tous sur le pont’ in Blois.
